- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
- Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until fully browned and crumbled. Drain excess grease completely.
- Prepare the base layer by spreading the thawed hash browns evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Add the sausage evenly over the hash browns.
- Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the sausage layer.
- Whisk the eggs and milk together in a large bowl until fully combined. Season lightly with salt and black pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole layers.
- (Optional) Sprinkle diced vegetables on top or mix them into the egg mixture before pouring.
- Bake uncovered for 40–50 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
- Rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.
